October 2014 – present In my role as senior designer at Microsoft, I am focused on visual analytics across Office as part of the Excel product team, working across divisions and disciplines to define the future of visualization in Office. My most notable work on this team has been as lead designer on the release of the first new chart types in Office in almost 20 years, including choropleth maps (aka “Fill Maps”) in Excel, which, according to Inc.com is the best feature Excel has added in years:
August 2012 – October 2014 I also worked on data visualization software in Microsoft’s Cloud & Enterprise Engineering Group, designing and developing business intelligence software with a focus on data visualization and color theory as it applies to data. I worked closely and collaboratively with the Graphics and Visualization team in Office, unifying Microsoft’s data visualization voice. My work with both teams involves designing next generation data visualization experiences involving a variety of technologies, including D3, Processing, and large-screen touch interfaces.
